Niagara Falls 2007 - Up Close and Personal
"Up Close and Personal with Jay Cochrane" began when Cochrane completed his first skywalk in Niagara Falls, Canada, on, Thursday, July 5th!
With over 120 skywalks scheduled during the course of the season, Cochrane covered a distance of over 20 miles on the wire.
"I am excited about giving Niagara Falls and the region an incredible experience with this unique chance to see my performances up close and look
forward to meeting everyone who comes to the shows," said Cochrane after completing the first skywalk.
Returning to Niagara Falls for the third summer in six years, Jay Cochrane's twice daily skywalks were designed to bring his performances "up close and personal."
The 2007 summer skywalks began July 5th at 4pm with the second show at 8pm. The schedule continued seven days a week, weather permitting. Over the 10 week schedule, ending September 3, Jay walked
over 20 miles and spent almost 3 full days atop the wire.
Jay's skywalks, between his specially designed 200 foot (20 stories) towers spaced 1,000 feet apart near the Skylon Tower, took between 20 to 30 minutes to complete. With the majestic falls as
the backdrop, his performances were set to music with Jay interacting with the crowds via microphone from atop the high wire.
Following each show, the Skylon Tower hosted Cochrane in its Jay Cochrane Gallery, where he signed autographs and talked to fans about his "storied" career.
The Gallery features memorabilia from his numerous skywalks, including items from the greatest skywalk ever, his 1995 world record walk above the Yangtze River in Qutang Gorge, China.
His career has taken him over such locations as the arch in St. Louis, the Peace River in Taiwan, the Pearl of the Orient Tower in Shanghai, and glittering Las Vegas. He holds
numerous records for his feats. Jay will be accepting donations in support of the local Niagara Tender Wishes Foundation.
His return to Niagara Falls follows performances in 2005, skywalking from the Fallsview Casino to the top of the Skylon Tower, the longest skywalk in North American history.
Traversing a distance of 1,800 feet, Jay stepped off the wire on top of the Skylon Tower, more than 600 feet high.
